New Training is offered frequently so you’ll always be gaining knowledge on an array of subjects having to do with abuse.
You may answer calls right from your home on weekdays, nights, weekends and/or holidays.
You will be assisting us with our continued efforts towards creating new perspectives on intimate partner violence.
This is an opportunity for you to join a team of volunteers who are dedicated, enthusiastic and concerned about survivors of intimate partner violence. Full training is offered. Training topics include:
- The dynamics of intimate partner violence against men and women
- Domestic Abuse within Heterosexual and LGBT relationships
- The effects of family violence on children
- Relevant legal and social issues
AVAILABLE POSITIONS
Answering Service Operator (ASO)
ASOs commit to work at least one-12 hour shift a week covering our helpline. ASOs are the first voice our clients hear when they call our toll free helpline. ASOs take initial information from the caller such as; name, phone number, and a brief description of the reason they called. They then pass this information to the helpline advocate who is on call. At present on a typical 12 hour daytime shift eight to ten calls come into the helpline. The ASO must take our 30 hour online helpline advocates training prior to working as a volunteer in this position.
Helpline Advocate (HA)
HAs work at least one scheduled 4 to 8 hour shift per week and make a one year commitment to the organization. During their weekly shift HAs are responsible for taking calls that come into the helpline. They must also attend one monthly volunteer meeting via teleconference (approx. 2 hours a month). HAs must take our 30 hour online training.
Grant Writer/Researcher (GWR)
GWRs work closely with DAHMWs Executive Director to assist in securing grants for the organization. The primary responsibility of a Grant Writer is to research grant programs, and assist with writing funding applications.
Fundraiser Chairperson (FC)
The FC will head the Fundraising Committee and answer to the Board of Directors and the Executive Director. This person will have prior fundraising experience and make a one year commitment to the organization. It will be the responsibility of this person to recruit a fundraising team, understand the laws and how they apply to non-profit organizations, creatively foster new fundraising ideas, carry out approved fundraisers and help raise money needed for this organization to succeed.
Fundraising Committee Member (FCM)
FCMs will report to the Fundraiser Chairperson. They will work in conjunction with the Fundraiser Chairperson to carry out approved fundraisers.
Community Outreach Coordinator (COC)
This volunteer position requires a 15 hour a week commitment. Purpose: To educate communities that DAHMW serves on the issues of domestic violence; develop and make presentations to community organizations and other interested groups; develop and organize special projects and events centered on special months including Domestic Violence Awareness month in October and Child Abuse Prevention Month in April.
Volunteer Coordinator (VC)
VC's oversee all Answering Service Operators and Helpline Advocates in a particular region of the US. The VC, recruits new ASO's and HA's , assists with monthly teleconference meetings for ASO's and HA's and maintainw contact with volunteers, etc. This position requires a weekly volunteer commitment of 15 hours. VC's must take the 30 hour online training prior to starting in the position. All work is done from your home.
